Iraqi Translators Association welcomes all those who meet the requirements of being members to report at the Association`s HQ located in Baghdad, Palestine Street near Al-Mawal Square, for this purpose. It is worth mentioning that the Association’s working hours are daily from 9 am until 2 pm, except for Thursdays, Fridays and official holidays. (The Association provides translation and authentication services on Thursdays from 9 am until 1 pm).

First: Terms of Affiliation

  • The applicant must be an Iraqi citizen.
  • The applicant must have a preliminary university degree (with a specialisation in a language) from a university inside or outside Iraq, provided that it is recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education, with an equivalency for university graduates from outside Iraq.
  • Based on paragraph (b) of Article VI of the Association’s bylaw, distinguished researchers and innovators in the field of translation may be exempted from the requirement to obtain an initial university degree by a decision of the Association’s Administrative Board, provided that the applicant passes the membership exam with a score of 80% and according to the applicable controls and conditions at submission time.
  • Based on the amendment made at the General Assembly meeting on March 27, 2015, a new paragraph was added to Article VI, related to non-specialists, stipulating that whoever takes the membership exam must have a Bachelor’s Degree or above with a specialisation not related to translation or languages ​​in order to be able to apply for the exam.
  • The applicant agrees to abide by the bylaws of the association, to have integrity and professional ethics, to act professionally and professionally, and not to offend the translation profession in a way that reflects negatively on the Association and its members.
  • Iraqi Translators Association reserves the right to reject the application for affiliation, stating the reasons for the rejection. An applicant whose affiliation with the Association is rejected has the right to object to the rejection decision at the general assembly at its first meeting after the rejection. The decision of the General Assembly is final.
  • The concerned person must come in person to fill out the application form, the latest form of which can be viewed below.
  • Those who cannot attend in person due to travel or other circumstances can make a special power of attorney certified by a notary public – or the Embassy for those outside Iraq – to report at Iraqi Translators Association and follow up the affiliation, signature and receipt of identity on behalf of the person concerned. In this case, the affiliation form mentioned below should be withdrawn and filled with the required information and delivered to the agent to be submitted with the affiliation request transaction. Whoever has the national card writes its number in the [Nationality Certificate Number] field, and the date of its issuance in the corresponding fields.

 

Affiliation Form

  • Just as the application for membership takes place on Saturdays to Wednesdays, the receipt of membership ID takes place during these days. Because the Association is open on Thursdays for the purposes of translation and certification, those who come to apply on Thursday – in order to facilitate the matter – can hand over their documents and pay the wages, but this means that they must attend in person upon receiving the ID for the purpose of signing the affiliation form, and this is from Saturdays to Wednesdays exclusively.

 

Second: The Rules of Affiliation

A- Rules for the affiliation of PhD holders

  • A graduation confirmation of a Bachelor’s Degree addressed to Iraqi Translators` Association.
  • Confirmation of a Master’s Degree or higher diploma addressed to Iraqi Translators` Association (or a copy of the assessment certificate of the Master’s Degree or higher diploma from the Scholarships Department: assessment order + mural).
  • A PhD confirmation addressed to Iraqi Translators Association (or a copy of the PhD evaluation certificate from the Scholarships Department: evaluation order + mural).
  • Iraqi citizenship certificate with civil status ID (photocopy, full-page colour photocopy). Those who have the national card is to submit a copy of it.
  • One recent photo, white background.
  • Confirmation of practice of translation profession.

B – Rules for the affiliation of holders of a Master’s Degree or higher diploma

  • A graduation confirmation of a Bachelor’s Degree addressed to Iraqi Translators` Association.
  • Confirmation of a Master’s Degree or higher diploma addressed to Iraqi Translators` Association (or a copy of the assessment certificate of the Master’s Degree or higher diploma from the Scholarships Department: assessment order + mural).
  • Iraqi citizenship certificate with civil status ID (photocopy, full-page colour photocopy). Those who have the national card is to submit a copy of it.
  • One recent photo, white background.
  • Confirmation of practice of translation profession.

C – Rules for the affiliation of holders of a Bachelor’s Degree

  • A graduation confirmation of a Bachelor’s Degree addressed to Iraqi Translators` Association.
  • Iraqi citizenship certificate with civil status ID (photocopy, full-page colour photocopy). Those who have the national card is to submit a copy of it.
  • One recent photo, white background.

 

Notes:

Some colleges issue a graduation certificate that does not mention the graduation rate. In this case, a graduation document without degrees should be issued.

  • Please obtain the documents to apply and do not come to the Association without them, because the Association’s Administration will not receive any application without the complete documents. As of the April 1, 2015 batch, ID cards with complete files are issued only, and those with a shortage remain waiting for their owners to obtain the required documents and information according to the applicable regulations.
  • The applicant for affiliation, if he holds a Bachelor’s Degree, is granted the status of a Trainee Translator.
  • Awarding an Excellent Degree from an excellent degree, a Master’s Degree, or a Doctorate. But this power is granted by the Association out of good faith for the applicant for membership and its continuation so that the level of translation conforms to the Association’s standards in terms of accuracy and professionalism. Otherwise it prevents legal practices and legal process.
  • Affiliation fees: Fifty-five thousand dinars.
  • The first three undergraduate students who graduated from Iraqi public universities are exempted from affiliation fees, provided that they apply for membership before the next batch graduates, and that the college mentions in the graduation confirmation the student’s hierarchy on the department (otherwise they are not exempted from affiliation fees).
  • The Association receives visitors for the purpose of affiliation and renewal, on Saturdays to Wednesdays, 9 am until 3 pm. The Association is open on Thursdays for translation and certification purposes, but not for delivering membership IDs. The Association does not open on Fridays, holidays and official holidays.
  • The membership ID is issued upon the issuance of the administrative order approving the affiliation. This administrative order is issued twice a month: on the 1st and 15th of each month. Whoever applies for affiliation before the 15th, his identity will be issued on the 15th; and those who apply for affiliation on or after the 15th, his membership ID will be issued on the 1st of the following month.
  • The member becomes aware of the issuance of the membership ID when he finds his name in the list of completed IDs.
  • After the opening of the Basrah Branch and the commencement of its work in July 2017, only the residents of Basrah governorate who are entitled to apply for membership in the Association can apply for membership at Basrah Branch, located in (Bariha opposite the European Centre – Courts Bridge, Prisoners Institution Building, 2nd  floor). In this case, the confirmation shall be addressed to: Iraqi Translators Association – Basrah Branch.
